- Sub: 1/4LY LIBRARIAN EXCHANGE
-
- 10 MAY 1987
-
-
-
-
-
- Dear Librarian,
-
-
-
- At Dayton I promised to hold the first Mid-Western Librarian's
- Exchange. After checking activities and space availablity it has been
- determined (by Me!) that 19 July 1987 is the best day to do this. The
- meeting will be held in Ann Arbor Mi at the school of education of the
- University of Michigan at 1:00pm. We will have one large classroom and 2
- copies of the MacTechnics and my two macs with external drives. Several
- other MacTechnics members may appear. As people call me to tell me that
- they are coming I will post a file on GENie and AppleLink to inform people
- of how many Mac and Apple II libraries will be there. I recommend that
- you bring the following with you to the meeting: Two to three people- no
- more or there will not be room. Two to Four Macs or Apple II's with two
- drives orone drive and a hard disk. Two copies of your library, two hard
- copies of your catalog, and lots of blank disks. Please do not bring any
- commercial software with you except a copy program. This exchange is
- intended for public domain and shareware software. Any one who wants a
- copy of my Mac Catalog in advance sent 2-800k disks to MacTechnics,
- 1801Independence #4, Ann Arbor Mi. 48104 by the 1st of July. Page two of
- this letter is the copy session rules and page 3 is the map to the school of
- Education. The building will contain signs to direct people to the copy
- session rooms. We will get a second or third room if needed by the demand
- for space. There is no fee for this meeting and Taco Bell is across the
- street if you get hungry.
-
-
-
- Three pieces of Business need to be conducted at the meeting, 1) the
- site for the next one of these if there will be one, 2) A proposed standard
- of organization for libraries, to be in place for the National Apple Users
- Group Conference in April of 88 for both Apple ][ and Mac software, 3)
- discussion of what the Librarian's Exchange BBS should be. I will have the
- Phone # for the BBS at the meeting. Those of you who can not make It will
- have to send me a letter to get your validation and phone number. I am
- sorry but I am trying to limit this board to active club librarians. I want a
- working board where software problems and libraries can be discussed and
- the latest and greatest PD and shareware Software can be up and down
- loaded.
-
- I hope that this meeting will be well recieved, reduce downloading
- costs, time, and be the start of something that we can all enjoy and that
- will reduce all of our workloads. Please help me out and attend or at least
- RSVP with your club the size of your MAC and APPLE ][ libraries, to the
- address above.
-
- If this one works we will try for one on the East and West Coasts
- eventually with one MidWest Rep going to each coast for Apple ][ and Mac.
-
-
-
- Thanks for your help and time.

- location of the next meeting may be taken.
-
- 5) Clubs will exchange whole libraries for a period not to exceed 1 hour
- if there are other clubs in the que for either library. No club will bring
- less then 2 copies of their library
-
- 6) Clubs will give credit where credit is due. If you use a disk from
- another club say so in your newsletter and on the disk.
-
- 7) Clubs are responsible for all of their own disks and equipment.
-
- 8) Clubs who do not register with me by phone or mail by the 10th of
- July get pot luck, If we have space you are welcome, If not I am sorry.
- With out an accurate record of who is planning to come, I can not plan
- space or staff to handle the situation.
-
- 9) New rules can be declared by the Host (ME!) at any time to fix any
- problems I see. Please work in the spirit of Dayton and lets not have to
- have any more rules, in fact prove to me that these rules are not needed
- except for labeling.
-
-
-
- PS. MacTechnics MAC software Library is over 350 disks with no
- system or finder on any disk.

- DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO GET LOST:
-
-
-
- Coming from the North/South on US23:
-
- -Get off at the Ann Arbor exit, exit 37 (a or b depending on your travel
- direction)
-
- -turn right onto Washtenaw (its your only choice here)
-
- -follow Washtenaw to the fork in the road, you want to be in the right
- hand lane. follow the right hand fork (ps this will still be washtenaw)
-
- -follow Washtenaw to South University, Turn Left on South U., you can
- tell you are getting close when you passed the multi-colored painted rock.
-
- -follow South U to West U, one stop light and two stop signs. Turn left
- to unload equipment or right to park. The school of Education is the First
- Building on the Right after you turn Left. But if you want to park, turn
- right into the dead end street(see below).
-
-
-
- Coming in on US14 take 23 south to exit 37 and follow the directions
- above.
-
-
-
- Coming in on I-94
-
- -Take the Ann Arbor State Street exit.
-
- -follow State Street to the 3 way stop in front of the Student Union.
-
- -Turn Right at the stop sign onto South University.
-
- -follow south U to the first stop sign and turn right to unload
- equipment, left to part (see below)
-
-
-
- Ann Arbor Parking
-
- The one law that is aggressively enforced in Ann Arbor is the Parking
- regulations--do not park in a loading zone except to load or unload and
- then only for 10 minutes and with someone remaining with the vehicle. Do
- not let your meter expire except during the times free parking is indicated
- on the Meter. There is a loading zone just before the school of Education
- that will hold 5 cars, unload and get out, do not use the 2 handicapped
- spots unless you like paying fines. There are over 50 spots on the dead end
- section of W. University and the meters are honest. Please lets not let a
- parking ticket spoil a good day. If anyone is coming in by air let me know
- ASAP but not later then 1 July if you want picked up at Metro Airport. If
- anyone is coming in on Saturday and wants a place to stay let me know by
- 1 July, But by mid-June would be better, indicate whether you want a
- cheap hotel, good hotel, or to stay with a MacTechnics member. Our
- monthly meeting is at the school of education on Saturday the 18th, first
- group of people to ask can have my floor for saturday night and an early
- shot at the MacTechnics library.
-
-
-
- --=doug=--
-
- good luck.
